Fun with Frying - Part 1

Stephen is a bit of a chef.  He loves to cook and try new recipes.  We watch food network all the time and one of our favorite shows is Top Chef.  Unfortunately, his culinary efforts are often wasted on me and my pickiness.

He has wanted a fryer for a long time.  I have never wanted him to have one.  Don't get me wrong...I like fried food as much as anyone else.  I just don't want the calories that come along with it!  For Stephen's birthday, my parents ganged up against me and got him a fryer.  Since then, he has fried chicken tenders, catfish, and doughnuts (from refrigerated biscuits.)  Of course, all of it has been good.

Well, it's Spring Break and he is on another frying kick.  He decided he wanted to make Pioneer Woman's doughnuts, which are from scratch.  He took Eli to the store to get all the ingredients and got to work.
Stephen starting the process by beating some eggs and melting some butter.

Adding the dry ingredients to the wet.

And the dough goes round and round.

In the bowl to rest in the fridge overnight.

The next morning, Stephen rolled out the dough and cut out the doughnuts and holes.

In the fryer they go!

*sizzle* *sizzle*

Taking a dip in the glaze.

Finished!  The ones on the far end have cinnamon on them.  Sadly for me, they are to die for!  We didn't finish them until around lunch time, so I had a lean cuisine and a doughnut for lunch.  Ok, two doughnuts.  They balance each other out, right?  Don't judge.

Happy customer!
